Can Cobra clips be used with non-grooved decking boards?

Yes ! The range Cobra® allows the installation of non-grooved deck boards until 25mm thick.

Three possible solutions depending on the type of board and the desired installation method:

Option 1 : Through screwing

Through-screwing remains a common method, particularly for fixing natural wood decking boards. It is also possible with composite wood. It consists of screwing the board directly onto the joist, using our Cobra stainless steel screw suitable for exterior use (A2 or A4 anti-corrosion). 2 models offered depending on whether the installation is carried out on wooden joists or aluminum joists. These screws are available with colorful heads , in 5 colors, for installing composite wood decking. Choose the length of the screws adapted to the thickness of the boards and the joists.

  • Recommended tools: The strawberry bit Cobra Drill Bit. To pre-drill and countersink the blade to achieve a flawless finish. The Cobra Liner. Drilling template to ensure suitable positioning and perfect alignment of the screws. It guarantees screwing 20 mm from the edge of the slats, in accordance with DTU 51.4. Adjustable and adjustable, it is compatible with all blade widths. Practical and easy. It is supplied with 4 spacers Deck Spacer, essential to ensure suitable and regular spacing.

Option 2: Milling the blades

For the woods stable and durable like the heat treated wood, Accoya® or Kebony®, or the ipé, the
merbau, padauk...it is possible to groove the edges boards in order to use Cobra hybrid clips 7-22 (thermo wood) or 8-25 (exotic wood) for invisible fixing.

  • Recommended tool: a lamella milling machine equipped with a 4mm blade, easy to find in the
    commerce.
  • Implementation: the groove must be made on each blade edge according to the HYBRID clip chosen (see plan).
  • This operation is simple, quick, and ensures perfect alignment clips and rendering aesthetic and durable.

Option 3: Invisible installation without groove with the Cobra® D-LOCK clip

If you do not want to groove your boards, the Cobra D-LOCK is the ideal solution.

Designed in POM (polyoxymethylene), an ultra-resistant polymer, it allows fix solid slats without groove while guaranteeing excellent ventilation under the blade.

Advantages of the D-LOCK system:

  • Compatible with blades 20 to 28 mm thick and 90 to 150 mm wide
  • Clip thickness: 8mm, creating a ventilated air blade under the decking (compliant with DTU 51.4)
  • Material resistant to shock, humidity and extreme temperatures (–30°C to +50°C)
  • Invisible fixing without direct contact between the blade and the joist → extended lifespan
  • Simple and quick installation : identification of the screws using the template provided, screwing, then insertion of the successive blades
  • Complete kit : 110 D-LOCK clips, 15 Start/End clips, stainless steel screws (4×25 mm and 4×40 mm), 1 metal drilling template and 4 blade spacers Deckspacer®
